Graphic Design Output Technician

The Graphic Design Output Production Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of advanced printing equipment to produce high-quality printed materials. This role involves setting up and operating direct-to-garment (DTG) printers, Canon flatbed and roll to roll printers, Colex CNC machine Konica Minolta digital press, and other related equipment. The technician ensures accurate output, performs routine maintenance, and collaborates with the design team to meet job specifications and deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Operate Brother direct-to-garment (DTG) printers to produce custom apparel and promo items with high quality and design accuracy.
- Setup and run Canon flatbed printers for printing on rigid substrates such as wood, metal, vinyl, dibond, magnetics and others.
- Setup and run roll-to-roll Canon printers for large-format graphics, banners, and vinyl prints.
- Setup and utilize a Colex CNC cutting machine to finish cut prints, banners and other items utilizing a a precision knife trimmer or router.
- Operate a Konica Minolta digital press (e.g., AccurioPress C12000) for high-volume digital print production, including labels, mailings, business cards and marketing materials.
- Handle additional related printing or finishing equipment as required. 3D printer, roll laminator, trimming and finishing equipment
- Access and process computerized art files, ensuring proper setup for printing.
- Perform color matching, resolution checks, and file preflighting to ensure output meets design specifications.
- Monitor print quality, adjust settings for optimal results, and troubleshoot issues during production.
- Proof prints and report anomalies to the production manager.
- Conduct routine maintenance on all printing equipment, including cleaning, ink restocking, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical or software issues with printers to minimize downtime.
- Place service calls and coordinate with technicians when advanced repairs are needed.
- Load and unload substrates (e.g., garments, vinyl, rigid materials) into printers.
- Manage inventory of supplies, including inks, toners, and media, and inform manager of low stock.
- Work closely with graphic designers and prepress teams to ensure files are print-ready.
- Work with others in the department to meet deadlines and achieve production goals.
- Prepare and package completed items for shipment or interoffice delivery.
- Adhere to safety protocols when operating machinery and handling chemicals (e.g., inks, solvents).
- Follow environmental and workplace regulations for waste disposal and equipment operation.
- Ability to lift and handle heavy substrates (up to 50 lbs).
- Stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Manual dexterity for operating machinery and handling materials.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced production setting with frequent schedule changes and tight deadlines.
- Exposure to noise, inks, and chemicals; proper protective equipment provided.
